Keys to success for any runner:
- Mental and physical strength
When you put in the time and effort to train and build your endurance, each athlete prepares to reach his/her personal goal.
Many people may think cross country is not a team sport because everyone is running their own time/goals but you cannot win a meet with one person.
- It will always take a team to win the meet
- You need the support from each other to succeed
When you run together with your teammates, it forces you to push yourself harder and become a better runner. You are pushing yourselves to be the best you can be and if you don’t work hard than you teammates will push past you in practices and meets.
But cross country training isn’t all physical. Running is a mental sport and even though you are on a team, it all comes down to you vs. yourself in a race. Anyone can tell you to run faster because someone is catching you but if you don’t have the desire or determination to push yourself past your comfort zone than its pointless.
Quote to Motivate: “The runners who are the toughest will always win that battle.” [Lauren Miller]
